Jericho Unearthed Proves Biblical Account

I love archeology! This is a great short video I found on youtube that catches archaeologists in absolute lies and reveals truths. It includes interviews with Dr. Peter Parr and Dr. Bryant Wood. Dr. Parr worked with Kathleen Kenyon on the excavation of Jericho. Truly an excellent eye opening video. You can find more Biblical Archaeology at http://www.biblearchaeology.org/. You can also find articles by Dr. Bryant Wood and reliable information at http://www.answersingenesis.org and http://creation.com.

This is another video on Jericho, a lecture by Dr. Bryant Wood.

Secretariat, God's Workmanship

I watched a documentary last night about a racehorse that I found very interesting and uplifting. Many of you have  probably already seen the 2010 movie Secretariat about an American Thoroughbred that became a racing legend by winning the Triple Crown in 1973. For those of you who haven't, it's a story worth knowing, the beautiful chestnut stallion was the first horse to win the Triple Crown in 25 years and to make it even more special, he won by an amazing 31 lengths. He ran with all his heart and the Lord filled him with a joy and desire to run. It was a beautiful thing to see. Brought tears to my eyes.

The book of Job describes the character of a horse as the Lord designed it. The Lord is speaking to Job when He says, "Do you give the horse its strength or clothe its neck with a flowing mane? Do you make it leap like a locust, striking terror with its proud snorting? It paws fiercely, rejoicing in its strength, and charges into the fray. It laughs at fear, afraid of nothing; it does not shy away from the sword. The quiver rattles against its side, along with the flashing spear and lance. In frenzied excitement it eats up the ground; it cannot stand still when the trumpet sounds. At the blast of the trumpet it snorts, ‘Aha!’ It catches the scent of battle from afar, the shout of commanders and the battle cry." Job 39:19-25 I think it describes Secretariat perfectly.

I believe he was an extremely intelligent horse who simply love to run and wanted to win. Below is the documentary I watched on youtube and I thought you might enjoy. If the player does not work you can watch it here.

Iraqi Green Rice

I found that my husband and I really enjoy Mideastern food.  I made my own version of Iraqi Rice or what they call Green Rice. The following recipe was inspired by Israeli Kitchen, lots of great stuff on their blog. My version is milder than theirs and I changed up some of the seasonings and how I cook it. You might like to try their version too. Iraqi Green Rice typically has fresh herbs but all I had was dried. It still came out great and I would definitely have it again. I was pretty disappointed when I looked in the pot and it was all gone.

Don't get put off by the dill. It really is good in this. This dish would go well with lamb, chicken, or a mild fish. Hope you give it a try. I really think you will enjoy it.

1 cup of uncooked Jasmine or Basmati rice, rinsed
3 Tbsp olive oil
1 medium to large onion, chopped
1 tsp cardamom
1 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp onion powder
1 tsp sea salt
2 tsp dill or 2 Tbsp fresh chopped
5 tsp parsley or 5 Tbsp fresh chopped
1 1/2 cup water

Add all the ingredients, except the water, to a medium sauce pan, toss to combine and coat the rice. Add the water, cover with a tight fitting lid and bring to a boil over medium heat. As soon as it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for about 25 mins. Remove from the heat and allow to set for 3 to 5 minutes covered. Gently mix and serve.

Notes: If you have the time, you could caramelize the onions in an additional tablespoon or two of olive oil. Then follow the instructions as normal. This will add a real kick of extra flavor.

Free Books Online For Adults and Children

I  found  a number of sites that offer free books and audio books online and thought I would share them. This first one is a neat site that has illustrated children's stories for young children to young adults. Some of the stories also have audio to go along with them. They also have phonics links, riddles, quizzes, as well as links to other good sites. It's a cute site for kids. http://www.magickeys.com/books/

If you like audio books and the classics, Audio Literature Odyssey is a great site. Voice-actor and writer Nikolle Doolin narrates many of the classics from authors like" Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Jane Austen, Henry James, Edith Wharton, Lord Alfred Tennyson and many others. Worth exploring. http://nikolledoolin.com/alo/

Another site for classic audio books is  http://freeclassicaudiobooks.com/ Audio books are available in MP3 or M4B format for iTunes and iPod. They have a link to free iTune player software on the site. You can also send in book requests and they add new books often.

Lit2Go is online literature from Florida's Educational Technology Clearinghouse. They have an extensive collection of children's literature and the classics. They offer formats in MP3, PDF and online viewing.  http://etc.usf.edu/lit2go/author/authors.html

If classic poetry is your love, then you will enjoy Classic Poetry Aloud. Many poems to listen to. http://classicpoetryaloud.podomatic.com/

If you are looking for Bibles in MP3 format Audio Treasure is a great site. http://www.audiotreasure.com/ They also have a collection of free Christian audio books, worship songs in MP3. They have the following translations which makes it a great site to share with others: King James, World English, Spanish Reina Valera, Mandarin, Cantonese NT, Gospels and Psalms in Arabic, Hindi NT, Tamil NT, Tagalog NT, Urdu NT, Punjabi NT, Polish, French, and links to more Bible audio in different languages.

You can find free books in Kindle Edition and include free wireless delivery via Amazon Wispernet. http://www.amazon.com/Free-ebooks/lm/RZRBH08ZK5DC5

If that wasn't enough, I found another site that has 1,000,000 free online books. You can search by titles, authors, or topics. You can also search for images throughout all the books in the library, even by year and category. It's a great site for research as well. You can find the most relevant pages in the library that mention the topic you are researching. You can then search for words and phrases inside any book from their free online book reader.  You can choose to read books with any of the following: iPad & iPad mini, Windows & Android Tablets, Kindle, Download a PDF, or use their free book reader. If this interests you, visit Forgotten Books.org.

All of these sites are great for personal use but also a great resource for those who are homeschooling or for those in college. Now all you need to do is pick a book, make a cup of tea or hot chocolate and sit down to listen or read a good story. Enjoy!
